"Piacenza is a place of transit like Florence". This is what Leonardo da Vinci wrote at the beginning of the 1500s. A very busy city, a crossroads for people and goods, a place for trade, Piacenza is at the junction of major communication routes: both in the North-South direction linking Milan's metropolitan system and the central Po Valley to the industrial production area of Emilia; and in the East-West direction linking Liguria, Piedmont (and in the future Southern and Central France) with Verona, Mantova, Padova and Eastern Europe.

The strategic importance of its location, the infrastructures available in the area (nationally important road, motorway and railway junction) and the large number of businesses specialised road transport have made Piacenza's logistics terminal into one of the most important facilities of the kind in Southern Europe.
